Which burrs should I pick?
The Mini is supplied with 233M bearing steel flat burrs, which deliver well-balanced extractions, rich velvety texture, nice acidity and a relevant body, particularly suited to cut through milk. The structure of flavours is complex, and its intensity stays through the whole experience.
Mini can be equipped with an optional second set of high-performance special steel burrs, K202P, which are known for sweet, delicate extractions, soft flavours, a silky texture, and a medium body. They fit well with light-roasted coffees, as they balance acidity and enhance sweetness. The K202P burrs are particularly easy to dial in.
Which is the retention of Mazzer Mini? Can I use it as a single-dose grinder?
Mazzer Mini is ment to be used as a hopper grinder, loading beans in the hopper and gradually dosing coffee with the provided user interface. The grinder has 8 grams retention, intended as the coffee that stays in the grinding chamber after the burrs and in the chute. This is the amount of coffee which should be purged after a change in the fineness of the grind, to see a difference in the extraction time. If you are looking for a single dose grinder, see the Mazzer Philos. When used in single dosing mode, at steady level (so after the first 3 doses ground), the retention is on average approximately 0.1 g.
